MORAGA, Calif. – The No. 17-ranked Gaels have won each of their last six contests including two upsets against Stanford who ranked as high as 11th in their first matchup. Saint Mary's will play three matches this weekend against San Jose State, San Francisco (both on Friday), and Sacramento State (Saturday).
SCOUTING REPORT
Last weekend, the Gaels hosted their first ever contests on campus, and christened their brand new courts with a pair of sweeps against Feather River College and Utah. The following day, SMC earned their third consecutive sweep, taking down San Jose State 5-0 and then defeated No. 13-ranked Stanford 3-2. After dropping their first three contests of the season against three top-5 opponents, Saint Mary's has been undefeated.
SAN JOSE STATE
The Spartans are currently 5-5 on the season, but are 1-for-4 in their last five matches. SJSU faced SMC on March 10 and was swept 5-0. Their last win came against Sacramento State when they defeated the Hornets 5-0 and they will face off again on March 15. Their most successful duo is Julia Golbeck and Sarah Smevog in the No. 4 position as they are 9-1 this season.
SAN FRANCISCO
The Dons are 5-4 this season and are 3-2 in their last five contests. USF and SMC faced off earlier this season and the Gaels defeated San Francisco 4-1. Four of USF's wins have come against Community Colleges: Feather River (twice), College of Marin, and College of San Mateo.
SACRAMENTO STATE
In the Hornets' three contests this season, they are 0-3, falling twice to UC Davis and once to San Jose State. Ashtin Olin and Skyler Takeda are the only undefeated pair, going 2-0 together with one match in each the second and third positions.
