MTEN | Gaels to Play Santa Clara, Pacific This Week

Saint Mary's will look to host the Broncos on Tuesday then travel to Pacific on Saturday to take on the Tigers.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (3-13) will look to take on two West Coast Conference opponents this week as they will host Santa Clara on Tuesday then travel to Stockton on Saturday for a matchup against Pacific.

ABOUT SAINT MARY'S
Saint Mary's are 1-4 in WCC play as they are coming off a tough loss in a 4-1 decision against Pepperdine. Daniel Krutik collected the lone point for the Gaels on singles courts after cruising to a 6-1 victory in the first set then clinched the 6-4 win in the second to secure the point. The win for the senior was his sixth of the season as he ties with Damon Kesaris who also has six wins in singles action.

Abhishek Bastola and Matis Bot each led their opposition on singles courts as they each picked up a 6-2 win the first set of their contests, but were both ultimately overcome by the Waves. As a duo, Bastola and Bot were leading their opposition 5-4 before the match was eventually called.

ABOUT SANTA CLARA
The Broncos are 11-4 overall with a 2-2 conference record as they recently snapped their seven-game winning streak after falling 4-3 to Gonzaga last weekend. During the matchup, Santa Clara claimed all of the doubles contests while Arthur Neuhaus and Santiago Hinojosa collected the two victories on singles courts for the Broncos. Neuhaus holds a 20-6 overall record with a perfect 5-0 record as the No. 6 seed and has not dropped a match in the last seven games. As a team, Santa Clara owns a 42-30 overall record in doubles play and are led by Andrew Gu and Robert Seby who own a 5-1 record as the top doubles tandem.

ABOUT PACIFIC
The Tigers hold a 4-13 overall record and are also 1-4 in the conference as they are coming off a close 4-3 loss against Loyola Marymount. After taking the double point with, Pacific dropped four matches in singles play to come up short to the Lions. Philip Hjorth leads the team with a 7-8 overall record as a No. 1 and No. 2 singles seed. In doubles, the duo Tadiwa Chinamo and Akram El Sallaly own a 6-3 record to lead the Tigers as they have played in all three seeds this season.
