STOCKTON, Calif. —​ After taking an early lead in the first inning, Saint Mary's (11-31, 4-2 WCC) was unable to overcome the Tigers on Saturday as Pacific (15-27, 1-8 WCC) put up six runs in the sixth to secure the 9-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's got the scoring started early in the game as they immediately put up a run in the first inning to take the lead over the Tigers. After
Kimiko Zapanta reached base on a hit by pitch,
Nikki Alexander notched a single to right field on the first pitch while
Bailey Lotz then recorded a sacrifice fly RBI to bring Zapanta home.
Jayda Alaan collected the second hit on the day for the Gaels as she smacked her second double of the season in the sixth inning.
Pacific stole the lead after scratching a run across in the third inning followed by a two-run home run in the fourth. The Tigers would go on to score six more in the sixth to end the game early with an eight-run lead over the Gaels. Pacific recorded seven hits in the frame along with one error to aid their efforts.
Eryn McCoy started in the circle for the Gaels as she pitched three total innings. Sofia Earle entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and pitched the next 2.2 innings while not allowing any walks. Eileen Perez would then enter the game in the sixth to pitch in relief for the remainder of the inning.
The Gaels collected three walks and two hit by pitches in the contest while Alexander tallied her second stolen bag of the three-game series.
