SB | McCormack Hits Slam in Loss to UNT

Julia McCormack hit a grand slam in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader for her third homer of the year.

DENTON, Texas — Saint Mary's (7-26) snapped their three-game scoreless streak on Sunday but dropped both ends of the doubleheader against a potent Mean Green (25-12) lineup.

Game 1
North Texas 9, Saint Mary's 2

Hannah Chew knocked in the initial run of the game as her RBI single in the top of first scored Dylan Linton to put the Gaels up early. Linton would later come home on a single by Nikki Alexander in the third and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

The Mean Green would respond to Chew's single with four runs in the bottom of the first on a single and 3-run homer. UNT added four more in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on their final run with a solo shot in the sixth.

Chew went 2-for-3 in the game and Abbey Mariani picked up the other hit for the Gaels.

Game 2
North Texas 14, Saint Mary's 7

The Gaels had one of their best offensive performances of the season at the plate in the second half of Sunday's doubleheader but couldn't best a 14-run outpour by the Mean Green in the end.

Julia McCormack was excellent for SMC as she went 2-for-4 at the dish with four runs batted in and two runs scored. The sophomore doubled in the second and later came around to score on a Jaymee Campbell single and then smashed a grand slam in the fifth for her third long ball of the season.

Chew had another multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 performance and the Gaels collected nine hits as a team.

North Texas had only six hits in the game but four of those were doubles that resulted in nine runs. The Mean Green drew 11 walks to frequently put runners on base and broke the game open with an 8-run fourth inning thanks to two bases loaded doubles.
