Johnson will return to the Bay Area after one season at Cincinnati.
MORAGA, Calif. — Gaels' head coach Randy Bennett announced today the signing of transfer guard Logan Johnson in preparation for next season.
Johnson played last year for the Cincinnati Bearcats under now-UCLA head coach Mick Cronin. As a true freshman, the 6-2 guard appeared in 32 of the team's 35 contests while averaging 2.0 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists.
"Logan is a Bay Area player we recruited heavily out of high school," said Bennett. "We are very excited to have he and his family be a part of our program. Logan is a very athletic point guard that will make an immediate impact to our team."
Highlights from Johnson's first year in college include eight point performances against NC Central and UAPB, dishing out six assists against zero turnovers versus Milwaukee, scoring seven points in seven minutes against UCLA, and grabbing seven boards versus South Carolina State.
On March 2 against Memphis, Johnson intercepted a pass off a missed free throw with just seconds left to cement the Bearcats' 71-69 victory in front of a home crowd of 12,392.
Johnson hails from nearby Mountain View, Calif. and starred at Saint Francis High School before heading to Cincinnati. As a senior, he averaged over 22 points and eight rebounds per game while accumulating an assortment of First Team recognitions. 247Sports and Rivals.com both listed Johnson as one of the Top 150 players in the nation during his final prep season.
Johnson has four other siblings, including his brother Tyler, who currently plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns.
