Former All-American Jock Landale has signed a Summer League deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
MORAGA, Calif. — Former men's basketball standout Jock Landale has signed a deal to play with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks Summer League team beginning later this week. For Landale, it will be his second stint in the Summer League after playing with the Atlanta Hawks' team after graduating from Saint Mary's.
Last summer with Atlanta, the 6-11 center appeared in nine games and made six starts. While playing 18.3 minutes per game, Landale averaged 5.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
"I'm super excited to compete with the Bucks and all the guys here. They've invested interest in my career over the past year and a half and I think I fit their system really well," said Landale. "Bigs who shoot thrive in their system and I think I can fit that mold well. If there's one thing I've learned over this past year it's that winning goes a long way so that's what I'll be focused on this summer."
Despite receiving multiple training camp offers from NBA teams last year, Landale instead opted to head overseas and play for KK Partizan in Serbia. The Aussie played in 47 games for Partizan and put up strong numbers, averaging 11.9 points, 5.8 boards, and 1.7 assists while shooting 59 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.
The Bucks' summer roster consists of current NBA players Sterling Brown, Bonzie Colson, D.J. Wilson, and Xavier Munford. The team also features former college standouts Luke Maye (UNC), Fletcher Magee (Wofford), and Elijah Bryant (BYU).
Landale played for Randy Bennett's Gaels between 2014-18 and was one of the top centers in the nation during his junior and senior seasons, as evidenced by being a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award both years.
In the team's season opener in 2016, Landale broke onto the national scene with a 33-point performance against Nevada in his first career start. He would be named First Team All-WCC and help his team reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament before narrowly falling to Arizona.
As a senior, Landale became the first Gael in program history to be named an AP All-American as he claimed second team honors. During his final year, he set the program's single-season record with 761 points and owns the best career field goal percentage of any Gael at 62.5. Landale also became the seventh player in Saint Mary's history to earn WCC Player of the Year and grabbed his second First Team nod.
The Bucks' Summer League schedule is as follows...
Following the preliminary games, the top eight Summer League teams will be seeded in a tournament, which culminates with a Championship Game on Monday, July 15. Teams that do not qualify for the tournament will each play a consolation game. Every team will play at least five games and as many as seven.
