SB | SMC Puts Up Strong Offense in Day One of the Round Robin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's had a busy Friday as they faced off against Nevada and Utah Valley at home, recording a loss in the first contest and leading in the second before lack of sunlight paused the game.

Game 1
Saint Mary's 5, Nevada 7 (FINAL)

Saint Mary's fought a close battle against the Wolfpack on Friday as they were neck-and-neck through most of the contest. Nevada struck first in the top of the second inning and scored two runs before SMC was able to respond with two, one-run innings to tie the game. The Wolfpack was then able to tack on five combined runs in the fifth and sixth inning, and despite a three-run bottom of the seventh for the Gaels, Nevada would eventually walk away with the win.

Jayda Alaan and Halle Sullivan each earned two hits apiece in the contest, while Nikki Alexander led the team with two RBIs. Alexander also recorded her first triple of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in two of her teammates and bring the Gaels within three runs of Nevada. Saint Mary's recorded a total of seven hits in the game, while Nevada was able to record 12.

Game 2
Saint Mary's 3, Utah Valley 0 (End of 5th Inning)

The Gaels got off to a hot start in the second game of the double-header as they homered twice in the bottom of the second inning. Maddie Gallagher and Sullivan hit nearly back-to-back home runs save a single by Kenedi Lopes to separate them. Saint Mary's was able to hold the Wolverines scoreless through five innings before the game was halted due to lack sunlight.

SMC and Utah Valley will return to the field on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to complete the remaining two innings of the contest before getting set to play the Gaels two more times.

UP NEXT: ROUND ROBIN CONTINUES
Following the completion of the final two innings of Friday's game, the Gaels and the Wolverines will play two more games on Saturday to complete the round robin. The two games are scheduled to have 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. start times.
