Fitts Earns Student-Athlete of the Week

MORAGA, Calif. — Malik Fitts has been named the Saint Mary's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 17-23 after leading the Gaels to two conference wins in the team's final home games of the season.

Fitts totaled 47 points in the Gaels contests against Loyola Marymount and San Diego. On Thursday against the Lions, the forward posted 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting while making all six of his free throws and grabbing six rebounds.

He followed up that performance by scoring 27 versus USD and was unconscious from deep -- splashing five of his six tries. Fitts also grabbed six rebounds in the contest and had two assists as Saint Mary's scored 92 points in the win.

The redshirt junior is averaging 17.1 points this season which is second on the team and fourth overall in the WCC.

Saint Mary's returns to action this week against Santa Clara and No. 3 Gonzaga on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Tipoff for both games is at 7 p.m.
