SB | SMC to Play in UC Davis Capital Classic

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (4-12) will travel to Davis this weekend for the three-day UC Davis Capital Classic Tournament where they will face off against five different schools. 

The Gaels will take on Utah State on Friday at 9 a.m. for the first contest of the tournament. On the second day, SMC will play in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 11:30 a.m. against UCONN before going up against Sacramento State at 2 p.m. Saint Mary's will play the final day of the tournament on Sunday in a doubleheader against Texas State at 9 a.m. and the host, UC Davis at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels most recently competed in the Saint Mary's Round Robin where they hosted Nevada and Utah Valley. SMC picked up one victory in the tournament when they defeated Utah Valley 4-1 in their first matchup against each other. In the contest, the Gaels tallied three home runs courtesy of Maddie Gallagher, Halle Sullivan and Kenedi Lopes. Lopes and Jayda Alaan led Saint Mary's on the day as they each with 2-for-3 while Lopes also collected an RBI.

ABOUT UTAH STATE
The Aggies own a 7-7 overall record this season as they just played in the Grand Canyon Purple Classic in Phoenix. Utah State took on CSUN, Drake and the host, Grand Canyon in the tournament and secured a 7-0 victory in their first matchup against the Lopes. Lexi Orozco currently leads the team with a .361 batting average while posting 13 hits including four doubles, three homers and 12 RBI's.

ABOUT UCONN
The Huskies are 8-2 this year and just recently swept four opponents in the Spring Games tournament last two weeks ago. Aziah James is at the forefront of UCONN's efforts as she owns a .432 batting average while tallying 14 runs and six stolen bases. In the circle, Marybeth Olson is 4-0 and has posted a 0.76 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched while striking out 43 batters. 

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets are coming off three-straight wins and are now 9-6 as they defeated Quinnipac and Delaware in the LMU Tournament last weekend. Alondra Mejia has posted 14 hits including three doubles, three home runs and a triple with a .304 batting average. Haley Hanson has also been a key contributor as she has a .431 on base percentage while tallying nine stolen bases and recording nine runs. 

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats own a 9-5 overall record while most recently picking up two victories in the Baylor Invitational against No. 17 Minnesota and Tulsa. ArieAnn Bell has recorded five home runs to lead the team with nine hits and 10 RBI's under her belt. On the rubber, Dalilah Barrera is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched while striking out 44 batters.

ABOUT UC DAVIS
The Aggies are currently 7-7 this season as they just competed in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic last week where they picked up a single victory against No. 18 Mizzou. UC Davis is led by Alyse Rojas who has a .529 batting average while recording 27 hits and is 10-for-11 in stolen base attempts for a .571 on base percentage. Kenedi Brown leads in the circle as she owns a 3.54 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched while recording 35 strikeouts.
