SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference announced its annual All-Academic team for baseball on Wednesday morning, and the Gaels were represented in large numbers in the announcement. Senior outfielder
Ryan Novis returns with first team honors on the All-Academic team, while seven other Gaels earned nods with honorable mention designations.
Â
In order to qualify for All-Academic WCC honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and hold at least a sophomore standing.
Â
This marks the second time in his Gaels career that Novis has been named first team All-Academic in the WCC, one of just two members on the first team who earned repeat honors (Michael Spellacy, Gonzaga). Novis continued his excellence in the classroom to the tune of a 3.50 grade point average as an accounting major during his senior season, though he will have a chance to make it a three-peat next year as he returns for his fifth season. Batting at .286 during the 2020 season, Novis led the Gaels in runs scored and finished second on the team in hits while starting every game during the shortened season.
Â
Seven other Gaels found themselves making the honorable mention section of the All-Academic selection from the WCC.
Casey Candiotti (3.30, Business Administration),
Marc Goulart (3.23, Business Administration),
Matt Green (3.82, Business Administration),
Jackson Hulett (3.40, Math Applied Track),
Ty Madrigal (3.65, Business Administration),
JC Santini (3.80, Business Administration), and
Milton Vrionis (3.33, Business Administration) all found themselves on the list.
