SAN MATEO, Calif. — Returning from their first tournament of the season, Saint Mary's senior Dan Fotu has been named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week for the period ending November 28.
Fotu was one of five named to the All-Tournament team at the Maui Invitational, helping Saint Mary's reach the championship game during their first-ever appearance. He scored 22 points in 22 minutes in the Gaels first round win over Notre Dame, going 8-9 from the floor and 3-3 from beyond the arc. He also hit the eventual game-winning three-pointer with less than a minute remaining to put SMC up for good. For the tournament, he averaged 16.3 points per game in 25 minutes, 3.3 rebounds per game, 0.7 assists per game, 0.7 blocks per game, and 0.7 steals per game.
Fotu was joined by his teammate Logan Johnson as representatives of the All-Tournament team at the Maui Invitational. SMC made up two-fifths of the roster, with just Wisconsin having the same number of players named to the team.
This marks the first time in his career that Fotu has been named the WCC Player of the Week, and the first Gael to do so since Jordan Ford on December 16, 2019.
Saint Mary's returns home for a quick single game at home against UC Riverside on Monday, November 29 inside University Credit Union Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm. SMC will then head out for the first road games of the 2021-22 season, as they play Utah State and Colorado State on December 2 and 4.
