

WSOC | Three Gaels Named to All-Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Mary's Women's Soccer players Maya Alcantara, Suzuna Shibukawa, and AnnaMaria DiGeronimo received All-Regional accolades from the United Soccer Coaches for 2021.
Alcantara and Shibukawa were named to the United Soccer Coaches 2021 NCAA Division I Women's All-Western Region Second Team and DiGeronimo was named to the All-Western Region Third Team.
Shibukawa transferred from Western Michigan and scored eight goals on the season, becoming the first Gaels player to score eight or more goals since 2014. The junior led the Gaels with four assists on the year for 20 total points – also the highest total in program history since 2014 – and led the team with four game-winning goals.
Alcantara has been a rock defensively in her career, playing in 54 games at Saint Mary's – good for seventh all time in program history – with 42 starts after starting every game the past three seasons for the senior. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native has tallied eight points with four goals as a Gaels defender, and is sixth all time in minutes played in program history.
DiGeronimo finished second on the team in goals this season with four. The senior was also second on the team in game-winning goals with three, assists with three, and total points with 11. She has played in 68 games at Saint Mary's – good for fifth in program history – with 32 starts as a Gael, and has accumulated 15 points on six goals and three assists. The Sandy, Utah native is now eighth all time in minutes played.
