MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's softball pitcher Sofia Earle has been named the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances against Sacramento State and California.
The left-hander began her week with a complete game, one-hit win versus the Hornets on Friday. Earle threw 122 pitches, struck out 11 batters, allowed no earned runs, and faced just three batters over the minimum. In the second game of the doubleheader, Earle entered in relief and threw the final 2.1 innings to earn the save. She did not allow a single Hornet to reach base and struck out three to preserve the win for SMC.
On Sunday against the Bears, Earle was one strike away from her second straight complete game before Cal rallied in the bottom of the seventh. All told, the junior went 6.2 innings, struck out six, and walked only two.
Across her three appearances, Earle pitched 16 innings, struck out 20 batters, and had a 2.19 ERA. She now has a 2.74 ERA on the season and has pitched 30.2 of the team's 47 innings.
SMC returns to the field tomorrow against UC Davis for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 11 a.m. and fans can watch the action live by visiting the Gaels' schedule page.
