WTEN | Kozyreva Receives WCC Singles Player of the Week

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Mariia Kozyreva has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week today following her strong performances against BYU and San Diego last week. It is the first time this season the conference has handed out the honor.
Kozyreva went a perfect 2-0 as the Gaels' top singles player in the team's first two WCC matches of the year. On Friday against BYU, the senior dominated her opponent Anastasia Abramyan 6-0, 6-3 and helped SMC secure a 4-3 victory over the Cougars. The following day, Kozyreva defeated San Diego's No. 66 Solymar Colling in a close three-set match, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3).
The St. Petersburg, Russia native is now 7-0 this season and 3-0 against ranked opponents.
The Gaels travel to San Francisco on Thursday for a showdown with the Dons. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
