MTEN | SMC Edged By Portland on Senior Day, 4-3

MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels (5-14, 2-6 WCC) battled hard in their final match of the season but came up just short to Portland (10-6, 4-4 WCC) on Senior Day, 4-3. 

SMC claimed the doubles point by taking the third and final set on Court 3. After UP secured the match between the two top duos, seniors Damon Kesaris and Matis Bot teamed up for a 6-4 win on Court 2. Fabian Roensdorf and Felipe Rincon then finished the job with a close 6-4 win over Portland's No. 3 tandem. 

The Pilots tied up the match score at 1-all by earning the first win in singles on Court 5. Saint Mary's No. 1 Kesaris then put SMC back up by cruising past his opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. After Portland grabbed another win, the Gaels answered back with a 6-2, 6-3 decision on Court 6 courtesy of Felipe Rincon. 

Once again, the match became tied as UP edged SMC in the 4-slot in three sets. All eyes then focused on the battle going on between Bot and Issa Yoshida on Court 3. Yoshida took the first set of the match 6-4 before Bot responded with a 6-4 win of his own in the second set. The final and deciding set went down to the wire once again but Yoshida managed to pull out the win in a narrow 6-4 victory.

As part of Senior Day festivities, the Gaels honored their three seniors before the match: Damon Kesaris, Matis Bot, and Andy Watterson.
