MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's softball team is bringing in a veteran hitter for the 2022 season with the signing of infielder Ellen Ebbers.

Ebbers, a junior, joins the Gaels from Morgan State where she spent the first two years of her collegiate career. As a freshman, Ebbers batted .235, with a home run, a pair of doubles, five RBIs, and five runs scored in a shortened 2020 season. The final week of the season, she earned MEAC Rookie of the Week Honors for her .455 batting average, five hits, double, and two runs, while driving in three across four games. 

As a sophomore, Ebbers was even better at the plate. She batted .340, with two homers, 12 doubles, 21 RBIs, and 14 runs scored. Against Howard University on Apr. 11, she went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored, and drove in two.

Prior to her time at Morgan State, Ebbers played softball and basketball at Foothill High School in nearby Pleasanton. She was named First Team All-League her senior year and Second Team All-League her junior year and was a four-time scholar-athlete.
