

MBB | Marciulionis To Play For Lithuania At FIBA U19 World Cup

MORAGA, Calif. — Incoming freshman and highly-touted international recruit Augustas Marciulionis will appear in the FIBA U19 World Cup this weekend in Latvia and represent his home country of Lithuania. The tournament features top young talent from all around the globe and a total of 16 teams will participate in the event.
Marciulionis and Lithuania are in Group A of the World Cup which also includes Senegal, Canada, and Japan. The four teams will play a round robin format to determine seeding for the 16-team bracket. Once bracket play begins, the tournament becomes win-or-go-home and concludes on July 11 with the third-place and championship games.
Lithuania begins their schedule at 5 a.m. Pacific this Saturday against Canada, the No. 2 ranked team according to FIBA. On Sunday, the team faces Senegal at 5 a.m. PT and wraps up group play against Japan on Monday, also at 5 a.m. Lithuania is ranked No. 5 overall heading into the event.
Marciulionis becomes yet another Gael to compete in the prestigious tournament in recent years. Two summers ago, Alex Ducas and Kyle Bowen represented Australia at the event prior to their freshmen campaigns. Former Gaels Tanner Krebs, Kyle Clark, and Jordan Hunter also played for Australia in the 2015 World Cup.
