MBB | WCC Announces Dates for 2021-22 Conference Matchups

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference announced dates for the conference matchups for the 2021-22 season on Wednesday morning. Saint Mary's will play their 16-game scheduling beginning on New Year's Day and wrap up the WCC-portion of their season on February 26.
The Gaels begin conference play with a home matchup on January 1 against the Dons of USF, their only WCC game of the week. Following the home conference opener, the Gaels will be on the road for the next three games, with road matchups scheduled at Santa Clara (Jan. 6), BYU (Jan. 8), and Pepperdine (Jan. 13). Those three games will be the longest "road-trip" of the WCC season for SMC.
Saint Mary's returns home for a pair of games on January 15 and January 20 where they will play Pacific and Santa Clara. The matchup against the Tigers is the only one scheduled for 2021-22, while the Gaels will not play Santa Clara again after that January 20th contest.
SMC goes back on the road for two matchups against LMU and San Francisco on the 22nd and 27th of July, opening their season-series against the Lions before closing out their set with the Dons. The Gaels will play LMU again at home on February 5.
Saint Mary's will also welcome in Pepperdine (Jan. 29) and San Diego (Feb. 10) to UCU Pavilion for home matchups in the middle portion of the Gaels schedule.
The conclusion to the regular season is where the Gaels have some of their biggest matchups. Saint Mary's will play Gonzaga twice over the final 14 days of the year, including a road game on February 12 and a home game in the regular season finale on February 26. Sandwiched in between is the Gaels lone home game against BYU on February 19, and a road game against the USD Toreros on February 24. With those matchups against Gonzaga and BYU at the end of the year, positioning at the top of the WCC standings could very well be decided during that stretch of games.
Times and TV networks will be announced at a later date, in addition to the non-conference portion of the Gaels schedule, set to begin in November.
