MBB | Blue & White Scrimmage Set for This Saturday
10/10/2022 12:55:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Men's Basketball returns to Moraga this week with the Blue & White Scrimmage set for Saturday, October 15. The annual scrimmage will get underway at 4:00 pm, directly following the volleyball match inside University Credit Union Pavilion.
The scrimmage is free to the public, and will feature the Gaels 2022-23 roster split up into two groups. The exact format of the scrimmage has yet to be determined, but will follow a similar structure to that of a standard two-half, 20-minute halves game. This gives fans a first chance to see the team in action before the regular season.
There is a lot of momentum building for the Gaels in advance of the upcoming season, with the preseason All-WCC teams and polls being announced at WCC Media Day in Las Vegas. The Gaels were selected second in the conference behind only Gonzaga, and SMC landed Logan Johnson and Alex Ducas on the preseason All-WCC team. This season marks the first time since the 2019-20 season that the Gaels have had multiple players land on the Preseason All-WCC team, when Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts were chosen before the season.
Saint Mary's has finished at least third or better in the WCC in 17 of the past 19 seasons under head coach Randy Bennett, the reigning West Coast Conference Coach of the Year. Even more, they've finished first or second in the WCC in 13 of the last 15 years. Bennett has a 224-91 (.711) record in conference play since coming to Moraga in 2001, and 179-52 (.775) since the 2007-08 season.
The 2022-23 season officially begins on Monday, November 7 at 7:00 pm when the Gaels host Oral Roberts. Saint Mary's has five consecutive home games to open up the new campaign.
Single-game tickets are on sale NOW for all home games, with the exception of the Gonzaga and BYU games. For all information on tickets, including season tickets, group tickets, and more, click HERE.
