

XC | Stanziano Races Into WCC All-Academic Team, 12 Gaels Honored

SAN MATEO, Calif. – After smashing school records all season long, junior Rayna Stanziano has been included on the WCC Cross Country All-Academic First team. Across the men's and women's squad's, 12 other Gaels were honored on the conference's Honorable Mentions list.
To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. Student-athletes also had to have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.
Stanziano was a force to be reckoned with all season long, besting her own 6K school record two separate times. The first came at the WCC Championships in October, where Stanziano finished 8th in a time of 20:23.0. She then one upped herself once more, smashing her personal best at the NCAA West Region Championships where she finished 16th in a time of 19:43.6.
Her stellar run is the highest finish ever by a Gael at NCAA West Regionals, and nine spots higher than she finished last season. With her finish, she earned her second consecutive NCAA All-West Region Honors.
Stanziano also maintained a 3.92 GPA while majoring in English.
