FRIDAY FIVE – February 4

FRIDAY FIVE presents five facts about Saint Mary's teams that are in action, with things to look forward to during the upcoming week.

1. TAYCEE'S RECORD
Taycee Wedin made Saint Mary's history on Thursday night, by setting the Gaels all-time record for most three-pointers made in a career. With just over one-minute remaining in the first quarter, Wedin broke the tie with Jontelle Smith and made her 269th three-pointer, doing so in just 101 games. She is now tied for second all-time in WCC history, just 26 behind the record set by Jessica Malone of Gonzaga in 2002.

2. FOUR'S A CROWD
Saint Mary's Women's Basketball had four players score at least 10 points in Thursday night's win over Santa Clara, giving them back-to-back games with four scorers in double figures. Only one other time this season has that happened for the Gaels, who will attempt to make it three-in-a-row for the first time this season against Pacific on Saturday. The Tigers have won just five games on the season and are allowing an average of 74.5 points per game to opponents.

3. TREMENDOUS  TASS
Matthias Tass is continuing to be one of the best centers in the West Coast Conference, and his hot streak earned him WCC Player of the Week on January 31. Tass has four double-doubles in his last six games to close out January, including a 27-point, 12 rebound performance at San Francisco. Tass ranks fourth in the conference and 23rd nationally in field goal percentage, shooting at a 57.3% clip this season.

4. MAKING WAVES
After a dominant performance at home against Pepperdine, Saint Mary's Men's Basketball climbed into the No. 28 spot in the NCAA rankings heading into week 13. The Gaels are just three spots away from being ranked for the first time since the opening of the 2019-20 season, and are the second-highest ranked team in the West Coast Conference.

5. FEBRUARY FUN
Saint Mary's Men's Basketball has a daunting closing stretch of the regular season upcoming in February. Beginning with a road game at second-ranked Gonzaga on February 12, the Gaels will end the season with two games against Gonzaga, one against BYU, one against San Francisco, and one against San Diego. Four of those five games are against teams inside the top-40 in the NET Rankings, making this the most difficult stretch of the season.
