MBB | Tuesday Night Showdown at Santa Clara Next for No. 22 Gaels

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — No. 22 Saint Mary's Men's Basketball enters the final three weeks of the regular season with a fresh ranking, and a lot of confidence. The Gaels are riding a seven-game winning streak, with all seven wins coming in WCC play. SMC will have plenty of chances to extend that winning streak this week, with three games on tap, starting with a road game on Tuesday night against Santa Clara at the Leavey Center.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's endured a tough one against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, taking down the Lions in a 71-60 win. After beating LMU by 32 points on the road in January, things were different this time around, with the Gaels never leading by more than the final margin of victory. Alex Ducas was on fire for SMC, tying a career-best with 25 points after knocking down five three-pointers. Saint Mary's also set a program record by going 18-18 from the free throw line, eclipsing the previous record of 16-16 that was set in 2020 against LMU.

GAELS RANKED
Announced on Monday morning, Saint Mary's entered the AP and Coaches Top-25 Polls for the first time since the beginning of the 2019-20 season. The Gaels are ranked No. 22 in both polls, jumping up six spots in the AP poll after beating Portland and LMU this past week. No other Bay Area schools are ranked inside the top-25, and only No. 12 UCLA and No. 21 USC are ranked higher within the state of California.

ABOUT SANTA CLARA
The Broncos represent a unique challenge for a Tuesday night game. Santa Clara has won three-straight in conference play, and their only losses are to SMC, Gonzaga, and USF. Since being held to just 65 points against the Gaels, the Broncos has scored at least 77 points in every game since. Their offense can shoot the ball well, including a 48.8% clip from the floor and 37.9% from three-point range. Jalen Williams has been a beast in conference play, averaging 17 points per game and shooting at a 51.2% rate.
