DAVIS, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's Tennis got their first two wins of the spring season in dramatic fashion on Friday in the Golden State Invitational at UC Davis.
 
The Gaels came back from a 3-0 deficit and saved multiple match points in three matches to defeat the co-host UC Davis Aggies 4-3, then beat their WCC foe USF 4-3 as well in the second round of the tournament at the  Marya Welch Tennis Center.
 
SMC will play in the Championship match on Sunday against the University of Hawai'i at 12:00 p.m. at the other co-host, Sacramento State. The Gaels began their comeback against the Aggies when Caelan Potts defeated Andras Necz 6-4, 7-6 for their first of four straight singles wins.
 
Carlos Ramos Membrives took down Brett Brinkman 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 and Thibaud Maxant outlasted Mitchell Davis 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) to tie the overall match at 3-3. An epic battle that needed a tie breaker decided the match when Mathis Moysan beat Andrei Volgin 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (10-6) as the Gaels stormed court number one to celebrate with the Sophomore from Rennes, France after he sealed the win.
 
Against USF James Watt took down Nil Giraldez 6-2, 7-6 (5) and Ramos Membrives beat Stevie Gould 6-3, 7-6 (5). Felipe Rincon defeated Mitch Johnson 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 and Maxant beat Nikola Kuraica 6-3, 6-3 in the Gaels second 4-3 victory of the day after the Dons took the doubles point.

The Gaels will play in the Golden State Invitational Championship at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Sacramento State.
