SB | Earle Named WCC’s Pitcher of the Week
3/28/2022 11:00:00 AM | Softball
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Despite pitching in just one game over the past week, Sofia Earle made that one game count. That one effort in a 3-0 Saint Mary's win on Tuesday against Nevada was more than enough to help Earle earn the West Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
Earle turned in a masterpiece during her lone appearance of the week, tossing a one-hit shutout at Nevada on Tuesday afternoon. The senior starting pitching was magnificent, taking a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning. Only three runners reached base against her: one walk, one hit, and one error, all in separate innings. It is her fourth complete game of the season, and the second time in her last three starts that she has thrown a complete game while allowing just one hit.
This is the second time that Earle has been named WCC Pitcher of the Week in career, with her other award win coming during the abbreviated 2020 season.
Actively, Earle is ranked fifth in the West Coast Conference in earned run average (2.37), third in strikeouts (77), and second in strikeouts per seven innings (8.29).
Saint Mary's hosts San Jose State on March 30 and then turns around to host Oregon State on March 31, with both games at Cottrell Field. Wednesday's game against San Jose State begins at 2:30 pm, while Oregon State's game will get underway at 3:00 pm in Moraga.
