MORAGA, Calif. — As part of a winning weekend for Saint Mary's Softball, some big individual performances helped get them their first West Coast Conference series win of the season. One of those strong performers was
Marissa Nishihara, who earned herself the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week award for the first time during the 2022 campaign.
Â
Nishihara continues to hold down the leadoff spot for Saint Mary's in stellar fashion, and had a great week in that spot to close out the month of April. She hit .417 across for Saint Mary's game, going 5-12 at the plate, with a walk and a stolen base added in. She was the leading run-scorer for the Gaels, crossing home five times, and also driving in one run. She had multiple hits in games one and three of the series, which were the two games Saint Mary's won against Pacific, and she tripled in the Senior Day win on Sunday. Nishihara was also the only Gael to score in all four games played on the week.
Â
The final home game of the season for Saint Mary's takes place on Wednesday, May 4 at 3:00 pm as the Gaels welcome in No. 24 Stanford for the final game of their two-game series. The Gaels went to Stanford earlier in the season and lost on February 24, part of a difficult back-to-back against Cal and Stanford. Following the final home game of the year, Saint Mary's will close out West Coast Conference play over the weekend with a three-game series at BYU, beginning on May 13.
