ORLANDO, Fla. — According to multiple sources, Tommy Kuhse has agreed to play in the NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic. Following the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Draft, Kuhse is the first Gael to sign with an NBA organization for the Summer League.
 
Breaking out into a leading role on the Gaels over his final two seasons, Kuhse capped off his Saint Mary's career by being named the West Coast Conference's Sixth Man of the Year, in addition to First Team All-WCC honors. He joined the 1,000-point club at Saint Mary's at finishes his career 26^th overall in points scored (1,138), fifth in assists (477), ninth in steals (119), and as the program's all-time leader in games played (149).
 
His performance on the court continued to rise throughout his collegiate career, culminating in his final two seasons, where he averaged 12.4 points per game over his final 58 games. He maintained his excellence in the classroom simultaneously, continuing to lock up WCC All-Academic honors as a senior, and most likely again as a graduate student this season.
 
Officially taking part in three pre-draft workouts, and several others with NBA teams, Kuhse was scooped up by the Magic after going undrafted on Thursday night. Orlando went 22-60 during the 2021-22 season, the worst record in the Eastern Conference, and second-worst in the NBA in front of the Houston Rockets.
 
Kuhse is the first Gael to join an NBA program in any capacity since Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts both were scooped up in the summer of 2020. Fitts eventually made it to the NBA and played the 2021-22 NBA season with the Boston Celtics, champions of the Eastern Conference.
 
Active Gaels in the NBA include Fitts, Jock Landale (San Antonio), and Patty Mills (Brooklyn).
