LODI, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's and Women's Cross-Country teams hit the race course at the Pacific Invite Friday evening, and it was Rayna Stanziano leading the charge for the Gaels, snagging the overall victory for the second year running. The all-around team performance helped clinch the overall victory for the women's side, with the men claiming seventh out of nine teams.
MEN ON THE MOVE
The men's 8K kicked off the evening's festivities, and it was sophomores Max Barnes and Jacob Bravo who were the quickest of the bunch for the Gaels, finishing in 48th and 49th in times of 27:27.1 and 27:29.1. Freshman Bryan Cromartie was next across the line for Saint Mary's, claiming 70th place in a time of 29:21.0. Following closely behind were Isaiah Jimenez in 76th with a time of 30:04.2 and Raphael Lobo in 84th with a time of 40:45.1.
SEEING DOUBLE
Micke Grove Park once again belonged to Rayna Stanziano, who claimed her second consecutive victory at the Pacific Invite Friday evening in a time of 21:36.4. The standout senior was in full control all race, not only claiming the individual title but helping seal the team title for the Gaels as well.
It wasn't just Stanziano who put up a great performance, as her Gaels teammates Molly Dreher and Klara Frih followed close behind, with Dreher claiming second in a time of 22:04.5 and Frih in fourth in a personal best time of 22:07.6. Saint Mary's had two more runners inside the top 20 with Danielle Rowlinson and Emily Field in 18th and 20th in times of 22:42.5 and 22:47.1.
"The women ran really well today," said Coach Marty Kinsey. "We had a couple people have tough races but with our depth other athletes stepped up. I think that's a marker of a good team. We were able to get the top one and two and four spots individually and the team championship. It was good tune up for the Bronco Invite."
UP NEXT
The Bronco Invite is next up for the Gaels, their last race before the WCC Championships at the end of October. The Bronco Invite is set to take place on October 15 in Sunnyvale, California before the conference championships in Portland on October 28.
