SAN MATEO, Calif. — It's impressive to say that you were swept a weekly award from the West Coast Conference every week in a month, but then again, Aidan Mahaney is an impressive freshman. For the fifth time in January, the eighth time overall, Mahaney has been named the WCC's Freshman of the Week, capping off the month with another feather in his cap.
 
Mahaney had a quiet game against BYU on Saturday night, but his biggest shot of the game was the winner for Saint Mary's. After being blanked in the first half, Mahaney scored 10 points in the second half to help Saint Mary's win in Provo 57-56. The highlight was the game's final shot, a turnaround, fadeaway basket with 0.3 seconds left on the clock that gave the Gaels the win. Saint Mary's remains the only unbeaten team in WCC play with Mahaney's game-winner.
 
This is now the eighth win of the season for Aidan Mahaney with the Freshman of the Week award, the third-most in the history of the award from the conference behind Jalen Suggs (10) and Chet Holmgren (9). The eight wins before the month of February is the most in the history of the award, as Suggs and Holmgren each got to the eight-win mark in February.
 
Saint Mary's embarks on perhaps their most difficult week of the season as they take on San Francisco and No. 12 Gonzaga at home to begin February. Both games are on the ESPN family of networks, with Thursday's 8:00 pm game on ESPNU and Saturday's 7:30 pm game on ESPN.
