MBB | Gaels Ink Three on National Signing Day

MORAGA, Calif. — Head Coach Randy Bennett has announced the signing of three future Gaels to kick off college basketball's early signing period, as Joshua Dent, Mikey Lewis and Zion Sensley all signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the Gaels. This stellar recruiting class will be the first in Gaels history to feature multiple players in the ESPN100 rankings (Lewis and Sensley).
"I'm excited for this group to come in and make an impact on our program," noted Bennett, "Joshua, Mikey and Zion should all fit into our program nicely and we're looking forward to getting them in and working come this summer."
Here's what you need to know about these three incoming Gaels:
Joshua Dent
6-3 | Guard | Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia (Centre of Excellence)
The Aussie pipeline continues to flow into the Saint Mary's Men's Basketball program, as Joshua Dent will become the 25th Gaels in program history to hail from Down Under. A well sized point guard, Dent has shown equal abilities to both score and distribute the basketball. Dent played alongside current Gaels Rory Hawke and Jensen Bradtke for the Centre of Excellence a year ago, averaging eight points and three assists per contest. Dent also represented Australia in the U17 FIBA World Cup, averaging 13 points and four assists per game, while shooting 49% from the field.
"Joshua is a terrific play maker with a high basketball IQ," stated Coach Bennett, "He has played at a high level in Australia and on the international circuit, and should transition well into our program."
Mikey Lewis
6-3 | Guard | Oakland, Calif. (Prolific Prep)
A four star recruit according to 247sports and the 83rd ranked player on the 2024 ESPN 100 coming out of Prolific Prep in Napa, Mikey Lewis has shown an ability to play either point guard or shooting guard for one of the top prep programs in the country. Standing at 6-3, Lewis has proven to be a high volume scorer with a smooth jump shot and an strong defender with a keen ability to clog passing lanes and force turnovers. Lewis played for the Oakland Soldiers of the Nike EYBL, where he averaged 18.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contes, earning All-EYBL Second Team recognition in regular season competition. He spent his sophomore and junior seasons playing scholastically for Denver Prep. Rated the ninth best player in his class in California and the 65th ranked player in the country by 247sports, Lewis chose Saint Mary's over Illinois, Ole Miss, Arizona State and Cal.
"Mikey is a highly skilled basketball player who's gone toe to toe with some of the top prep players in the country." noted Coach Bennett, "He is a proven winner and will have tremendous upside within our program."
Zion Sensley
6-8 | Wing | San Francisco, Calif. (Archbishop Riordan HS)
Rated 54th in the 2024 ESPN100, Zion Sensley is an extremely long wing who will come across the Bay to Moraga from San Francisco. Sensley has a smooth shooting stroke and is a physical rebounder who can make his presence felt as a guard or forward. He spent his previous two seasons at Prolific Prep, where he helped his team to a 65-8 record over two seasons. Sensley also played for Team WhyNot of the Nike EYBL, averaging 10 points and six rebounds per game. He is a three star recruit according to 247sports and is the 14th ranked player in his class coming out of California and the 87th ranked player in the country. He chose Saint Mary's over Arizona State, Cal, Grand Canyon and Hawaii.
"Zion is a strong all-around player," said Coach Bennett, "He can score inside and out and is a physical rebounder. His overall athleticism should make him an high-level basketball player as he develops."
