MORAGA, Calif. — After a strong performance in the Gaels double overtime victory over UNLV,
Alex Ducas has been named the Shamrock Office Solutions Student Athlete of the Week. Ducas joins
Augustas Marciulionis as the two Saint Mary's Men's Basketball players to have won the award this season. Ducas also earned this honor on 11/27, bringing his career tally of Student Athlete of the Week honors to four over his illustrious career in Moraga.
After three players fouled out in regulation time, the Gaels leaned heavily on Ducas in overtime, as the Gaels eventually downed the UNLV Runnin' Rebels 69-67 at the Jerry Colangelo Classic. Ducas scored more than half of his points in the extra frames, including six points in the first five minute period after the Gaels fell behind by five. While Ducas struggled to get things going from beyond the arc, he was able to adjust his game and score at the rim, converting on 4-7 attempts inside the arc, while also knocking down 3-4 free throw attempts. Ducas joined Mitchell Saxen as the only two Gaels to score in double figures in the defensive slug fest.Â
Alex and the Gaels will have a busy week, hosting three contests inside UCU Pavilion this week, starting tomorrow against Middle Tennessee.
