XC | Gaels Dominate with a Third Straight Win at Pacific Invite

STOCKTON, Calif - The Gaels competed at the Pacific Invite this warm Friday evening where both men and women competed. The men finished sixth out of eight and the women won the race out of a field of nine.
The Gaels top finisher on the men's side was Sam Andersen in 26th with a time of 25:56.2. It was Anderson's first collegiate cross country race. Behind Andersen was Jason Habash in 43rd with a time of 26:19.0, closely followed by Jacob Bravo, 26:20.1 in 45th place. Habash's time was a new PR by nearly 19 seconds. Angel Castro came in 53rd with a time of 26:29.6 and Payton Fox in 58th, with a time of 26:38.2.
The women finished first overall for a third year in a row, where three Gaels took up second to fourth place. Graduate student Rayna Stanziano led SMC again, taking second place with a time of 20:46.7. Right behind Stanziano was Molly Dreher with a time of 21:12.3 and just 0.2 seconds behind her was Kaylee Barnes in fourth place with a time of 21:12.5. This marked a new collegiate PR for Barnes. She moved into 7th on the SMC All Time list with her finishing time.
Freshman Eleanor Jepsen finished in 6th place with a time of 21:38.6, also a new PR. Close behind her finishing only two seconds after with a time of 21:40.3 was Emily Fields in seventh place.
For the girls, the team's average was 21:18, which happens to be the second fastest in school history (NCAA West Region 2022 21:00). They also scored a 22 points, which is the lowest score at an invitational in over 20 years.
After the race, Women's Head Coach Marty Kinsey said "The women executed a really good team race by packing up early, staying patient and finishing really strong to win a third title in a row!"
