MBB | Jefferson’s Third Double-Double Earns him WCC Player of the Week Honors

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Coming off of the Gaels "battle of unbeatens" victory over San Francisco, the WCC has named Joshua Jefferson its Player of the Week. Jefferson becomes the third Gael to be named the WCC Player of the Week this season, joining Mitchell Saxen (12/18) and Luke Barrett (1/2). A season ago, the Gaels only had two WCC Player of the Week honorees (Saxen and Logan Johnson), but have surpassed that mark with six weeks to go in the regular season.
Jefferson was the driving force behind the Gaels victory over San Francisco. The sophomore out of Las Vegas tallied a career-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Typically an interior scorer, Jefferson found his stroke from beyond the arc in this one, knocking down a career best four triples on five attempts, including three in the first six minutes and change. Defensively, Jefferson played a big role in holding one of the conference's most prolific scorers and rebounders, Jonathan Mogbo, to just 11 points and six boards, both well below his season averages.
Jefferson will look to continue his hot play this week, as the Gaels welcome Pacific and LMU to town on 1/25 and 1/27 respectively.
