SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Gaels have gone back-to-back with WCC Freshman of the Week honors, as after
Mikey Lewis secured his first WCC weekly award seven days ago,
Andrew McKeever has been selected by the conference as this week's top freshman. McKeever and Lewis become the first two Gaels to earn freshman of the week honors in the same season since the inception of the award in 2020. McKeever, who redshirted last season, saw his first collegiate action this past week, scoring in double-figures and using every inch of his 7-1 frame to dominate on the glass and rim protect defensively.
In his collegiate debut, McKeever scored 10 points and brought in seven rebounds, shooting 83% from the field against Stanislaus State. Defensively, he also had two momentous swats, turning away a couple of Warrior layup attempts. McKeever became the second freshman to debut this season with a double-digit showing for the Gaels, joining teammate and true freshman Mikey Lewis. This is the first time in the Bennett era that two freshman have debuted with double-digit scoring efforts in the same season.
McKeever will look to continue his development alongside his teammates in Palm Desert this week as the Gaels will head to Acrisure Arena for the Acrisure Classic. Saint Mary's will open the tournament against USC on Thursday, before taking on either Arizona State or New Mexico on Friday.
