LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Rowing team competed against UCSD in the morning and continued to race in the evening against Kansas State.
In the morning varsity 8+ boat,
Skye Kirsten was the coxswain,
Natalie Sanchez was the stroke, it also held
Carolyn Huckel,
Katelyn Robertson, Hanna Kuegler,
Hathaway Scarpine, Katie Ferbet, Maria Moreno, and
Kendall Brazeel as the bow. They came in behind UCSD with a time of 6:59.7.
The second varsity 8+ came in second, 12.8 seconds behind UC San Diego with a time of 7:06.8, and 17.9 seconds faster then The Tritons 3v boat. This boat held,
Mavis Read-Kinney as the coxswain,
Danijela Concion as the stroke,
Faith Freligh,
Alyssa Teague,
Olivia Watson,
Ava Delucchi,
Maggie Farritor, Val Hill, and
Naomi Seivold as the bow.
The team also raced a varsity 4+ boat with
Madison Sciba as the coxswain,
Lea Glafkides as the stroke,
Madison Ciccolella,
Ilayda Ozbilgin, and
Kaitlin Quezon as the bow. The team placed third 24.1 seconds before Sac State 3v, but 38.4 seconds behind UCSD and 35 seconds behind UCSD 2v boat.
In the evening varsity 8+ which had
Madison Sciba as the coxswain,
Natalie Sanchez as the stroke,
Carolyn Huckel,
Katelyn Robertson, Hanna Kugler,
Hathaway Scarpine, Katie Ferbet, Maria Moreno, and
Kendall Brazeel as the bow, finished behind Kansas State by 7.7 seconds.
The Gaels second varsity 8+, finished last behind Kansas State's main boat and Kansas State 3v boat. SMC clocked in at 7:12.1 seconds.
The varsity 4+ boat finished in third out of fourth behind Kansas State main boat, and Kansas State 2v boat. The Gaels finished with a time of 8:29.5, 40.3 seconds faster than Sac State 3v boat.
The Gaels are back in action next Saturday as they travel to Briones Reservoir to take on Cal Berkeley.
