THROUGH NON-CONFERENCE PLAY…
It has been an epic start to the 2024 campaign for Saint Mary's. Heading into their conference slate, they are tied with Santa Clara for best record at 20-14. As a team, the Gaels are batting 0.300 with 153 runs scored and, in the circle, hold a 3.12 ERA, all good for top marks in the WCC. The driving forces offensively have been Sam Buckley, Hannah Ferguson and Marissa Montelongo. Buckley is leading the WCC with a 0.687 slugging percentage, a 0.526 on-base percentage and 6 triples. Ferguson leads the conference with 42 hits, while Montelongo leads the WCC with 29 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. In the circle, Odhi Vasquez is holding opponents to just a 0.186 batting average and has worked three complete game shutouts, also conference leading marks.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Pacific has not quite had the non-conference success that the Gaels have enjoyed. Sitting with their record at 11-26, the Tigers will hope to reset as conference play gets underway. Brian Kolze has led the Tigers for over three decades, and has amassed over 800 wins in that time. Despite their record being less than stellar, this team offers up two of the better hitters in the conference, in the forms of Olivia Silvestre (0.396 9 2B 2 HR 14 RBI 7-7 SB) and Rian Dirmeyer (0.333 7 2B 3B 5 HR 16 RBI), as well as the conference's top pitcher, Avery Croxall (19 GP 2 GS 4-2 1.28 ERA 53 K 12 BB). This team does have the pieces to be successful in this conference. The Gaels took two of three against the Tigers last season. Overall, Pacific leads the all-time series 47-18.
