PORTSMOUTH, Va. — No player has played more games in a Saint Mary's Gaels uniform than
Alex Ducas, but this week, Ducas will instead be wearing a Team K&D ROUNDS LANDSCAPE SERVICES uniform as he has been selected to take part in the 70th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) is the nation's oldest amateur basketball tournament, and is one of only two NBA pre-draft camps. It is open to 64 college seniors that make up eight teams, who each will get the chance to play three games in front of professional scouts. Several players who have played in this tournament have gone on to have brilliant NBA careers, including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, John Stockton and Jeremy Lin.
Alex Ducas will play alongside Jamarion Sharp (Ole Miss), Donta Scott (Maryland), TJ Bickerstaff (James Madison), Clarence Daniels (New Hampshire), RaeQuan Battle (West Virginia), Sam Griffin (Wyoming) and a familiar face, Quincy Olivari, who the Gaels saw earlier this season in their matchup with Xavier. Other former Gael opponents playing in the tournament include Kalib Boone (UNLV), Keylan Boone (UNLV), Branden Carlson (Utah), Tristan Enaruna (Cleveland State), and WCC foe Tyler Robertson (Portland).
Ducas is coming off of a second team All-WCC selection, after averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds per contest, and shooting a team-high 43.8% from three. The fifth year senior out of Geraldton, West Australia started every game for the Gaels this season. He scored a season-high 23 against Davidson this season, and tied the program record with six made three pointers in a single half in the WCC Semifinals against Santa Clara. Ducas finished his SMC career with 1,353 points scored (14th in program history), 278 made three pointers (2nd in program history), a 40.6% three point clip (11th in program history), an 82.8% free throw shooting clip (10th in program history), 150 games played (program record), and 123 games started (2nd in program history).
