SB | Wolverton Earns Second Career WCC Pitcher of the Week after Shutout Performance to Clinch Conference Title

MORAGA, Calif. - Redshirt sophomore Avrey Wolverton picked up her second career WCC Pitcher of the Week award and did so in style as she helped the Gaels to their first ever conference title in an 8-0 win over LMU. Wolverton made three appearances on the weekend, totalling 12.1 innings pitched, allowing nine hits and just one run. She would come in relief in both games on Friday which featured nearly six innings of one run ball in game one of the doubleheader.
After a series opening victory on Thursday, the Lions would fight back for the doubleheader sweep on Friday and set up a winner-take-all scenario on Saturday for the conference title and an automatic berth to the NCAA regional. Wolverton would take the circle and make her 14th start of the season and arguably the biggest one of her Gaels career. With an NCAA berth on the line, she threw a dominant six inning shutout, pitching to contact and getting flawless defense behind her as Saint Mary's defeated LMU 8-0 for the program's first ever WCC title.
Wolverton lowered her ERA to 2.88 on the season and picked up her fifth win of the year. She now has six complete games and nearly 100 innings pitched this season, earning her second career WCC Pitcher of the Week award.

Wolverton and the Gaels will gear up for just their second NCAA tournament appearance as they take on 8th ranked Stanford on Friday, May 17th at 7:00 PM. Stanford plays host in the regional and will also welcome Mississippi State and Cal State Fullerton.
