MBB | Gaels Add Utah Mr. Basketball Cooper Lewis; Will Join Gaels in 2026

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Men's Basketball has landed a big recruit for the future of their program, as Lehi High School's Cooper Lewis has signed his National Letter of Intent to come play for Coach Randy Bennett in Moraga. Lewis, a high volume scoring 6-2 shooting guard, received a laundry list of accolades throughout his prep career, including being named Utah's Mr Basketball and the Gatorade Player of the Year from the State of Utah. Lewis will take part in an LDS Mission over the next two years before joining the Gaels for the 2026-27 season as a freshman.

After playing sparingly in his first two seasons at Lehi High School, Lewis propelled himself to notoriety in his junior campaign, averaging 18.4 points per game. A torn meniscus sidelined him for most of the summer, but hard work paid off as he was ready to go at the start of his senior campaign, averaging 22.2 points per game in non-conference play, and an incredible 31.4 points per game throughout the remainder of the campaign. That boiled down to a season in which he averaged 27.4 points per game, and buried 110 three pointers, more than double the amount he made in his junior year. He scored 40 or more points in three games during his high school career, and led Lehi to a 6A Championship.

"Our program is very excited to have Cooper join the Gael family in 2026," stated Head Men's Basketball Coach Randy Bennett, "At Saint Mary's, we pride ourselves on on bringing in talented players who are focused on winning, and Cooper is no exception to that!" Outside of basketball, Coach Bennett noted, "Cooper's high character, work ethic and leadership qualities will be a great addition to our team and culture."

Coming from a terrific basketball pedigree, Cooper's father, Quincy, spent more than a decade as an assistant collegiate basketball coach, with stops at BYU-Hawaii, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and BYU. Quincy is also a prep coaching legend in the state of Utah, leading Lone Peak High School to seven state championships. He currently helms the Lehi High School program in which Cooper has played for in each of the last four years, and has led them to two more state titles, bringing his total to nine as a high school head coach. Coined one of the greatest point guards in program history, Quincy was a 2012 inductee of the Wagner College Hall of Fame, after playing for the Seahawks from 1991-93.

As Utah's Mr Basketball and Utah's Gatorade Player of the Year, Cooper is joined by some elite company, including BYU standout Dallin Hall, former Detroit Piston and New Orleans Pelican Frank Jackson (who played for his father at Lone Peak), and former Dallas Maverick and 2016 WCC Player of the Year Kyle Collinsworth.

Lewis will join the Gaels following a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portland, Oregon.
