SALT LAKE CITY — After his strong showing in his fifth Olympic games for Australia, Patty Mills has found a new home for the 2024-25 NBA season. The 15 year NBA veteran and Saint Mary's standout from 2007-09 spent last season split between Atlanta and Miami, but will head west for the 2024-25 campaign to play for the Utah Jazz.
Mills is coming off of yet another stellar performance in the Olympics for team Australia. The five time Olympian averaged 16.5 points per contest, good for second amongst Boomers and 16th most in the tournament. He scored a tournament high 26 points against Serbia in the quarterfinals, but the Boomer fell in overtime to Serbia in that contest. He became the fifth all-time leading scorer in Olympic history in Australia's final pool play game against Greece.
This past NBA season, Mills began his year with the Atlanta Hawks. He saw minimal time with Atlanta before being waived and later signing with the Miami Heat. In Miami, Mills had a bit of a resurgence, appearing in 13 regular season games, starting five, and averaging six points per contest. He went onto appear in four of Miami's seven playoff games, but the Heat were bounced by eventual champions Boston in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
A free agent going into the Summer, Mills signed a one year deal with the Jazz worth $3.3 million. While Mills has never played for the Jazz, he does have a connection with the franchise. Current Utah Head Coach Will Hardy was an Assistant Coach in San Antonio from 2015-21, a time span that was arguably the best in Mills NBA career. Mills will look to recapture some of that magic in Salt Lake City this season.
