SB | Gaels To Play Nine Fall Contests to Tune Up for 2025 Season

MORAGA, Calif. — The defending WCC Softball Champions, your Saint Mary's Gaels, have one goal in mind for 2025…REPEAT AS CHAMPS! With a hefty chunk of returners and an exciting incoming class pairing up to make a strong 2025 roster, that goal is attainable. Another piece of that puzzle will be the Gaels preparedness for the season, but Head Coach Sonja Garnett has prepared for that as well, with a slate of nine fall contests throughout the month of October and early November that should have the Gaels ready to hit the ground running in the Spring.
Things get started on October 6 when the Gaels host both Sacramento State (10 AM) and Dominican (3 PM). The Gaels split with the Hornets in a doubleheader in the state capitol last season, a team that would go on to finish tied for second in the Big Sky conference. Dominican is a NCAA Division II program located in San Rafael, not far from Moraga, and was on Saint Mary's fall slate a season ago.
The following Saturday, the Gaels will welcome alumni back to campus for the program's annual Alumni Game on October 12 (11 AM). That will be followed up with a Sunday, October 13 doubleheader (1 PM and 3:30 PM) against Fresno State. Another squad that the Gaels saw last Spring, Fresno State and SMC split their two game set in mid February.
Saint Mary's will play their lone road Fall contest in Seaside, California, as they meet up with old friend Coach Emily Montanez and her squad, the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters. Coach Montanez served on Coach Garnett's staff for six seasons before being named the Head Coach at CSUMB in July. That contest will take place on Saturday, October 26 (12 PM).
A day later, Saint Mary's will again play host to a pair of squads, as Cal (10 AM) and Sonoma State (3 PM) will make their way to Moraga. The Gaels dropped both of their meetings with the Golden Bears last season, but took the 20th ranked team at the time to extra innings back in early April. Another NCAA DII program, Sonoma State won the CCAA regula a season ago, but lost their first two matches of their conference tournament to narrowly miss out on an NCAA Tournament bid.
The Fall season will come to a close on November 3 (12 PM) with the Gaels hosting the Stanford Cardinal. The Gaels saw the Cardinal twice last season, hosting them in the regular season and playing them in the opening round of the NCAA Regional, with Stanford winning both matchups. Stanford went on to make it to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to top seeded Texas.
