MTRACK | 14 Gaels Make Season Debut in Mile Race at UW Preview

SEATTLE – Indoor track season is underway for Saint Mary's Men's Track and Field, with 14 Gaels running in the mile race at the UW Preview in Seattle. In a field of 449 runners, the Gaels had half of their runners place in the top-100, including two, Julius Largaespade and Alexandro Alvarez placing in the top-20.
In his Saint Mary's track debut, Glendale Community College transfer Julius Largaespada paced the Gaels with a 16th place finish, checking in at 4:15.45. It was Largaespada's first mile since his junior year of high school, and his career best time besting his time of 4:36.37 when he won the Pacific League Title in that distance as a high school sophomore at Burroughs High School in Burbank. Finishing just a little over one second behind Largaespada was sophomore Alexandro Alvarez. Alvarez shattered his mile PR by almost four seconds, finishing in 20th with a time of 4:16.52. Alvarez won his heat, the third fastest of the 26 heats that ran.
True freshman Aidan Doherty made his collegiate track debut, placing 25th with a time of 4:18.04, while senior Curtis Volf finished eight spots behind in 33rd with a time of 4:19.17. Noah Pagaran set a PR time at 4:20.43 (42nd), true freshman Daniel Martinez made his collegiate debut finishing in 59th, and Anthony Erickson made his SMC debut after transferring in from Cuesta College, placing 64th to round out the group of top-100 finishers.
Seven other Gaels; Luther Hart (102nd, 4:28.43 (PR)), Moss Michelsen (123rd, 4:30.83 (PR)), Gus Hollister (143rd), Jacob Bravo (184th), Troy Coulston (185th, 4:36.35 (PR)), Kellen Steplight (224th) and Bryan Cromartie (278th) finished within the top-300 in this heavily populated race.
The Gaels will next be in action on January 31 at the UW Invitational, back in Seattle.
