MORAGA, Calif. — The "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" chants will continue to ring through UCU Pavilion for the foreseeable future, as the Gaels are excited to announce the signing of their 26th Australian over the past 25 years, adding Flynn Pavely out of the Centre of Excellence. The 6-11 big man from Sydney has shown an ability to score inside and out at the highest level of Australian prep basketball, and will be a solid addition to the Gaels front line in the 2026-27 season.
"We're excited to have Flynn Pavely joining us. He's a really good, young big that we'll need as we graduate Harry Wessels and we try to add depth at that spot." noted Head Coach Randy Bennett, "He has a chance to be another really good big for us here at Saint Mary's. He can play the five or the four, has good height, a feel for the game, and a high basketball IQ. He is a key piece for us continuing to stay big moving forward with guys who can become skilled, big and strong."
A product of the Australian Centre of Excellence, which produced the likes of current Gaels Harry Wessels, Rory Hawke and Joshua Dent, as well as numerous Gael alums including Patty Mills, Matthew Dellevadova, Alex Ducas, and Kyle Bowen. Pavely has competed at the highest level of Australian prep basketball, helping lead the CoE to a runner-up finish in the regular season of the NBL1 East and a trip to the NBL1 East Semifinals.
Pavely will join a long list of Aussie Gaels, continuing a pipeline that began with Adam Caporn in 2001 and has produced some of the top Australian basketball players to play in the NBA.
