NEW YORK — For the first time the 2024-25 campaign, the Saint Mary's Gaels have entered the top-25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, checking in at No. 23. The Gaels opened the season receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches Polls, and remained in the RV category in one or both polls for nine of the next 13 weeks. Coming off of their 62-58 victory over rival Gonzaga as part of an ongoing 10 game unbeaten streak, the Gaels now enter the top-25 of the Coaches Poll for the first time since the final poll of the 2023-24 season, when they finished ranked No. 22. The Gaels remain in the "receiving votes" category in the AP Top-25, with the second most votes of any team not ranked in the top-25.
The Gaels have put together one of their best starts in program history, winning 20 of their first 23 games for just the seventh time in program history. It was the Gaels fastest time to reach 20 wins since the 2017-18 season, when they won 20 of their first 22. Saint Mary's has signature wins this season against the likes of Nebraska, USC, Utah (on the road), San Francisco, Washington State, Santa Clara and, most recently, Gonzaga. The team ranks in the top-10 in the country in rebounding margin, offensive rebounds per game, total rebounds per game, and assist to turnover ratio. They hold a 2.5 game lead in the WCC standings ahead of the next closest team, San Francisco, who they will take on later this week.
The Gaels and Dons will square off on Thursday, February 6 at 6 PM in San Francisco. Come out and support the Gaels or watch live on ESPN2.
