SB | Bats Stay Hot, Vasquez Tosses Gem as Gaels Wrap Up Series with Idaho State with 9-0 Victory

POCATELLO, Idaho — The Gaels (15-15) could not have asked for a better way to close out their first visit to Pocatello, defeating the Bengals of Idaho State (19-11) 9-0 to close out their three game set. Saint Mary's hit three more home runs, bringing their weekend tally to 10 with still one more game to go tomorrow in Logan, Utah.

The Gaels scored two runs in each of the first four innings. Sam Buckley led off the game with a bunt single, followed by an infield single from Camille Lara. The duo advanced to third and second respectively, before Jenavee Amador smashed a double to the left field gap to give the Gaels an early 2-0 lead.

In the second, Tori Cervantes blasted her first home run of the year, followed by a round-tripper from Sam Buckley the very next AB, her 10th of the season. Braxton Brown was plunked by a pitch to lead off the third, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then scored on a single from Alex Cutonilli that was misplayed in right field. Cutonilli advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on an Odhi Vasquez groundout, her first RBI of 2025, moving the score to 6-0.

In the fourth it was the ever deadly 9-1 spot in the lineup of Cervantes and Buckley striking again. Cervantes reached on an infield single, stole second, and then was tripled home by Buckley, putting her a double shy of the cycle. Sasha Canedo pinch hit for Camille Lara and picked up her second hit and RBI of 2025, scoring Buckley from third and putting the Gaels into run rule territory. Victoria Castillo launched her first home run since her freshman year in the top of the fifth for good measure, before Odhi Vasquez retired the side to pick up her fourth complete game shutout of the season.

While the offense might've overshadowed her a bit today, Odhi Vasquez was every bit as good as advertised today, going the complete five innings, surrendering just one hit in her eighth victory of the season. The Upland, California native fanned five, including the final out of the game, graciously taking the run support given and pitching her second career complete game shutout against the Bengals.

Sam Buckley and Tori Cervantes combined for half of the Gaels, going a combined 6-6 at the plate with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI. Buckley finished just a double shy of the cycle, while Cervantes logged a pair of single and her first home run of the season.
