SAN BRUNO, Calif. — On pace to break just about every offensive record in Saint Mary's history,
Sam Buckley had the best weekend of her already storied Gaels career. The sophomore out of Burbank led the Gaels to a 3-1 weekend on the road, blasting six home runs and driving in 15, helping the Gaels to pull above 0.500 for the first time this season. As such Buckley has been named the WCC Player of the Week for the second time this season and fourth time for her career.
11 hits in 13 ABs...9 of those 11 hits of the extra base variety...six home runs...15 RBI...11 runs scored...and a perfect fielding percentage to boot...Sam Buckley was Gaels Softball this weekend, leading them to 43 runs scored over a 3-1 road weekend. Just a sophomore, Buckley currently ranks 10th in program history in runs scored (72), 4th in triples (8), and 7th in home runs (15). She is one home run shy of tying the program single season home run record of 12 and holds the seventh most runs scored in a single season (35) and the eighth most RBI (34), still with 19 games to go.
Buckley and the Gaels will get this upcoming week off, and then will return to action on April 1, hosting UC Davis.
