Box Score FRESNO, Calif. — Bouncing back from a tough loss on Tuesday, the Gaels (9-10) were able to best the host Fresno State Bulldogs (9-9) in the Bulldog Classic Opener by a 6-1 scoreline.
Odhi Vasquez worked her fifth complete game in her last six, allowing just one run on three hits, while fanning five. She's now 6-1 for the season with a stellar 1.59 ERA.
The Gaels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Sam Buckley doubled before being bunted to third by Camille Lara and scoring on a wild pitch. Buckley was responsible for two more runs in the third, when she doubled Julia Medina home, the once again scored on a wild pitch.Â
A two out RBI single would score the first run of the game for Fresno State in the bottom of the third, the only blemish to Vasquez's resume tonight, but the Gaels would take that run right back in the top of the fourth, when Julia Medina launched her second career double to left center, scoring Mia Zabat. Jenavee Amador plated two more in the top of the seventh, bringing her RBI total to a team-high 14, while Odhi Vasquez hung up a final zero to end things.Â
Sam Buckley had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. True freshman Julia Medina stayed hot with two hits, including her second straight game with a double. She also made a spectacular diving catch in right field. Jenavee Amador drove in two to take the team lead in that category with 14.Â
