MALIBU, Calif. - Saint Mary's concluded the 2025 regular season with a pair of road defeats to LMU and 28th ranked Pepperdine. The Gaels have now lost four straight matches dating back to their 4-0 sweep against 7th ranked San Diego at the beginning of this month. 

On Friday, the Gaels dropped the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 defeats. LMU went on to win the bottom two duals and get a win out of their three spot to secure the 4-0 sweep. Carlos Ramos Mebrives won his second set 7-6 to keep his match alive and senior Thibuad Maxant was tied 6-6 in his second set. Pierre Lieutaud also had a five games to two lead in his second set before the match was ultimately called.

The Gaels ended the weekend at 28th ranked Pepperdine and suffered their four straight conference defeat falling to the Waves 4-0. After dropping the doubles point, once again, the top three spots for Saint Mary's battled and remained unfinished. Finn Dyer and Pierre Lieutaud both led 2-1 in the second set of their duals. The Gaels would only take two games in their three singles defeats as Pepperdine won comfortably, improving to 5-2 in conference play.

LOOKING AHEAD

Despite the weekend defeats Saint Mary's saw some results go their way with losses from Gonzaga and Portland to help them secure the sixth seed in the WCC Tournament. This is their first postseason appearance since 2023 and they will seek their first match victory in the conference tournament since 2013.
