WTRK | Stanziano, DeSouza Steal the Show at the Oxy Invite

LOS ANGELES — 18 Gaels made the trek from Moraga to Los Angeles and the campus of Occidental College to take part in the 2025 Oxy Invite. Seven of those Gaels threw down a PR time, with two winning their races, as Saint Mary's continues to see its student-athletes march closer to postseason competition.

The first PR of the day came from ol' reliable Rayna Stanziano, who has proven that if she is running in a meet for the Gaels, you'll probably see her do something incredible. In the 800m, Stanziano raced to a personal best 2:05.34, besting a near three year old career mark of 2:06.49 set back in 2022, and placing second at the meet. It was the 85th fastest time in the country this year, as Stanziano now has top-100 times in the 800m, 1500m (82nd) and 5000m (45th) this season. She also continues to own the fastest time in program history. Stanziano's freshman teammate, Alexis Ortiz, also hit a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:24.06.

As if taking second in the 800m with a new PR wasn't enough, Stanziao won the 5000m race as her encore performance, by 9.79 second. It was her fifth race win the season, having already won the 3000m race at the Cal Opener, the 1500m at the Sacramento State Invitational and the Johnny Mathis Invitational, and the 5000m at the West Coast Invitational entering today's race. Also with PRs in this race were Emily Field (17:15.53), Anna Ranieri (17:45.31), Elle Shrader (17:54.21), and Jane Harig (18:05.69).

Rounding out the group of noteworthy performances was Jaden DeSouza, continuing to amaze in the 400m hurdles. A month ago, DeSouza had never run a sub minute time in this race…after today, she has done it three times, with a blazing fast time of 58.88, good enough to win the race at the meet. The time was the 81st fastest in the country and the fastest in program history.

The Gaels will have one final tune up before postseason, in two weeks time, as they will cross the Bay Bridge to San Francisco State to take part in the West Coast Last Chance Meet.
