Dylan Delvecchio Hurls Gem for Program’s First Ever NCAA Tournament Victory, Named Final Shamrock Student-Athlete of the Week

MORAGA, Calif. - The Gaels season came to an end this past weekend in the Corvallis Regional but senior southpaw Dylan Delvecchio delivered a memorable performance Friday night as he helped Saint Mary's to their first NCAA Tournament win in program history. Delvecchio put the team on his back with six-plus innings of work and recorded a career high ten strikeouts to earn a historic win over 8th ranked Oregon State and be named the season's final Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week.
Delvecchio finished his senior season with a career high seven wins while also leading the team in innings pitched (71.2) and strikeouts (81). After giving up a two-run homer in the third inning, Delvecchio retired nine of the next ten batters he faced, including seven strikeouts, to get into the seventh inning with a four-run lead. The Beavers answered with a pair of RBI hits in the seventh to end Delvecchio's outing but fellow senior Daniel Guevara Castro shut the door, sitting down seven of his eight batters faced en route to the Gaels historic 6-4 victory.
Saint Mary's may have dropped the next two games in the regional to end their postseason run, but they shocked the country Friday night with their two-run victory over 8th ranked Oregon State for their first ever NCAA Tournament win. The Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week award will resume in August with the start of our fall sports programs.
