MBB | Murauskas Named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, Second Career National Player of the Week Award

INDIANAPOLIS — As just announced by the US Basketball Writers Association, Paulius Murauskas has been honored as one of this week's five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week. Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only one named after a former player.
Leading the Gaels to a 3-0 week, Murauskas averaged 24.3 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8% from the field in wins against Pepperdine, Portland and Seattle U. Against Seattle U, the Kaunas, Lithuania native put together arguably the best game of his career, going for 30 points and 15 boards against the Redhawks in a come-from-behind victory. This is the second national weekly award for Murauskas, who won the Lute Olson National Player of the Week award after averaging 24.5 points per game against San Francisco and Washington State last year. Mitchell Saxen was the last Gael to win the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week award, doing so after a 24 point, 16 rebound effort against UNLV in the 2023-24 campaign.
